Pittsburgh Community Market Kid’s Lantern Making Workshop and Parade

Atlanta Beltline and The Happy Black Parent at Pittsburgh Yards for Lantern Making

Come join Pittsburgh Community Market and The Happy Black Parent for a delightful afternoon of lantern making before we head out to the Westside BeltLine Lantern Parade! Starting at 12 PM, get creative at the children’s lantern making workshop station and make your own unique lanterns for the celebration. The market will also feature local businesses, food vendors, pickleball demonstrations, and more. And for the little ones, we have a fun-filled kids parade led by Atlanta Ol Skool Drummers around Pittsburgh Yards and on the Atlanta BeltLine at 5:45 PM to showcase their creations.

Attendance at the market does not require a reservation, but please RSVP if you plan to make lanterns and participate in the children’s parade to ensure we have enough supplies.

Schedule of Lantern Parade Events

  • 12 – 7 PM: Pittsburgh Community Market
  • 12 – 7 PM: Free family Lantern making workshop @ Pittsburgh Community Market
  • 5:45 PM: Children’s Lantern Parade begins @ Pittsburgh Yards
  • 6:30 PM: – 8:00 PM: Pre-game vendor market and mingle @ Adair Park I
  • 8:45 PM: Parade step-off
  • 9:15 PM-ish: Lantern Finale “jam session” @ Lee + White
  • 9:30 PM – 10:30 PM: After party @ Lee + White

 

Following the Children’s Lantern Parade join us for the the 13th Atlanta BeltLine Lantern Parade as we light up the Westside Trail!

The Lantern Parade lines up at 8 pm and starts marching at 8:45 pm sharp in Adair Park and finishes at Lee + White. Anyone can participate in the parade for free if he or she brings a lantern or any glowing object. Participants let their creativity loose bringing glowing hats, animals, popular culture characters, and all kinds of custom designs. The procession also includes 6 marching bands.

Created and presented by Chantelle Rytter and the Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons, the Atlanta BeltLine Lantern Parade brings together thousands of people, hundreds of lanterns, and some really big lantern puppets for a festive evening of creativity, community, and magic. This is a night to show off your creativity with your homemade lantern and to celebrate community. Sit and watch from the sidelines or jump in the parade and dance to the music. Let’s light up the night and spark joy on the Atlanta BeltLine Westside Trail together.
