August is National Black Business Month!

August 1

August is National Black Business Month, and here at Pittsburgh Yards we take pride in our deep roots in Atlanta’s legacy of Black business leadership. Did you know Black-owned businesses represent only about 3% of all U.S. firms, yet Black Americans make up roughly 14% of the population?

Review after review shows Black-owned employer businesses earning nearly five times the revenue of non‑employer counterparts—but systemic barriers keep their overall numbers too low.
Here in Georgia, there are nearly 17,000 Black‑owned firms—among the highest totals in the nation.
Nationally in 2024, women launched nearly half of all new businesses—the highest level in over five years—with more than 54% of Black‑ and AAPI‑owned startups founded by women.

Yet financing remains unequal: Black women are up to three times more likely to be denied business loans and far less likely to receive venture capital.
At Pittsburgh Yards, we’re proud to host a vibrant ecosystem where more than 50% of our business leaders are women, many of them Black entrepreneurs pushing innovation in NPUV. Whether they run nonprofits, creative agencies, retail boutiques, or startups, these leaders are shaping the future of business in Atlanta. In honor of Black Business Month, we’re sharing stories, resources, and spotlighting opportunities for connection and exposure. This is about more than recognition—it’s about lifting each other up and building generational wealth together. Our place of purpose reflects more than just leased square feet; it reflects legacy and economic power in motion.

As Atlanta continues evolving as a Black “mecca” for entrepreneurship, we remain dedicated to supporting founders through programming, partnerships, and visibility. This month, we invite you to support these businesses, explore their work, and learn more about Pittsburgh Yards’ community—because every dollar spent locally, every story told, helps shape equitable opportunity for all.
